TRUMPF appoints new director for its Smart Factory

Markus Zimmermann, formerly the Manager for Global Testing and Product Performance at TRUMPF, is the new Director of the TRUMPF Smart Factory in Hoffman Estates, IL.

Markus Zimmermann, formerly the Manager for Global Testing and Product Performance at TRUMPF (Ditzingen, Germany), is the new Director of the TRUMPF Smart Factory in Hoffman Estates, IL (a Chicago suburb), where he will report directly to Burke Doar, Senior Vice President of TRUMPF Inc. (Farmington, CT).

Zimmermann received a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Stuttgart, where during the final year of his studies, he also held an internship with TRUMPF in Ditzingen, where he completed his graduate thesis. Following graduation, he joined the company as a Development Engineer for Optical Components, then went on to become Head of Advanced Development for Laser Cutting Machines. In this role, he worked to build an Advanced Development group, which was dedicated to the expansion of the company's TruConnect and Smart Factory products. Most recently, he worked to develop and install innovative and reliable solutions in the process chain for customers.  

In his new role, Zimmermann will be responsible for the operation and continuous development of the Smart Factory by utilizing the latest TRUMPF technology to demonstrate industrially viable autonomous factory solutions to customers. He will also lead TruConnect, Automation and Software sales and marketing activities for North America.
