CCAT issues call for papers for SALA 2010

The Symposium for Advanced Laser Applications, to be held April 14-15, 2010, is seeking abstracts for conference presentations that will focus on aerospace manufacturing topics.

The National Center for Aerospace Leadership (NCAL) at the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology (CCAT) is preparing for its fifth Symposium for Advanced Laser Applications (SALA) 2010. to be held on April 14-15, 2010, at the Rentschler Field in East Hartford, CT. The organizer, CCAT, is seeking abstracts for conference presentations that will focus on aerospace manufacturing topics including:

* Laser Drilling of Aerospace Components
--Present & future needs for drilling including new materials, hole geometries, new platforms
-- Monitor and feedback control methods to improve process efficiency and decrease the need for
non-value-added operations
--Case studies on actual laser drilling applications and how production rates and/or quality were improved

* Additive Manufacturing
---The use of lasers to repair/refurbish aerospace components
--The production of prototype or "tailored" parts using direct metal deposition

* Laser Welding
--Techniques used for laser welding for aerospace applications
--Implementation considerations related to the use of lasers

* Laser Cutting
--The use of lasers for the cutting of aerospace components (metallic & composites)
--Impact of laser cutting on production materials
--Relationship between laser parameters and cut quality

* Laser Marking
--Case studies on the implementation of direct laser marking of components
--Methods, techniques, and requirements for full implementation of UID into a manufacturing application and supply base

* Other Applications
--Surface/coating/paint removal
--Laser shock peening
--Surface texturing

* Equipment and Systems
--New laser technologies
--Advance user interfaces
--Monitoring and control methods

Other topics related to lasers, laser processing, and/or the use of lasers in aerospace land based turbine, or
related industries would be considered. Electronic copies of the abstracts are due November 1, 2009 (email
to: ( Presentations will be selected and notified by December 1, 2009. This is a non-ITAR
international conference with speakers and participants from the U.S. and abroad.

In addition, As the Exclusive Media Sponsor for SALA, Industrial Laser Solutionswill join CCAT in promoting the 5th in this series of outstanding meetings where end-user applications for industrial laser materials processing are featured. This partnership is expected to take SALA to the next level in its history of attendance growth each year.
