The ExactWeld 230 system from Coherent (Santa Clara, CA) provides automated, precision laser welding of metal parts. Features include a 200 W (400 W optional) fiber laser, part clamping, up to four axes (x, y, z, c), software, an optional vision system, and factory automation capabilities (Industry 4.0- and Internet of Things-ready). The system has uses in medical manufacturing such as endoscope production, as well as fabrication of precision sensors, jewelry, timepieces, and automotive electronics.

The system also incorporates the company's SmartWeld technology for producing complex beam wobble patterns, including circular and zigzag paths. The technology enables bridging of larger gaps, which relaxes tolerances, increases process flexibility, and delivers welds with higher quality and reproducibility.
