Safety Technology Holdings (STH; Farmington Hills, MI) has acquired laser processing equipment maker OpTek Systems (Oxford, England), a company that also provides micromachining and optical fiber processing services.
STH is a portfolio company of UK-based private equity firm Bridgepoint (London, England) and is a holding company with test and measurement sector companies that include vehicle safety company Humanetics Innovative Solutions (also in Farmington Hills), specialty optical fiber manufacturer Fibercore (Southampton, England), and sensor manufacturer HITEC Sensor Developments (Chelmsford, MA).
Founded in 2000, OpTek Systems also operates an ITAR-compliant facility in Greenville, SC. The company's products include laser optical fiber processing and micromachining equipment used in various mission-critical applications for which precision is crucial. The company is also a contract supplier of complex optical fiber assemblies and laser processing services, including micromachining and optical fiber stripping, lensing, fusing, and cleaving.
OpTek's founder and CEO Mike Osborne will continue in his current role post-closing. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
