Laser cutting system
Bystronic Inc. (Hauppauge, NY) introduces Byspeed with a new laser control and a 4400W resonator. With its combination of power, acceleration, and control technology, this laser cutting system out-produces 5000W and 6000W machines as well as high-speed turret punch presses in most hole-intensive applications, according to the manufacturer.
A wide range of options is available, including Bycell, a fully automated storage and retrieval system, for true unattended "lights out" operation. Bysoft software ties all elements together in a user-friendly package.
The Compact-Q from GSI Lumonics Inc. (Farmington Hills, MI) complements the smaller Mini-Q laser series, and is also a compact and transportable Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. The laser provides 800 mJ per 6-8ns pulse at 1064nm with a pulse repetition frequency of 10Hz. With a laser head measuring 45 cm long, the laser will fit into small spaces. It is offered with a choice of stable multimode, Gaussian-coupled, or TEM00 resonator options. Applications include PIV, LIF, LIBS, marking and drilling, and laser ablation as well as mass spectroscopy and OPO pumping.
Laser diode arrays
AMS Technologies (Martinsried/Munich, Germany) presents the Higher Density Laser diode arrays from Nuvonyx. Higher brightness results in a higher pump fluence of optical energy for diode-pumped laser systems. Higher gain and consequently smaller sizes of the final laser system are the benefits. High-density bars with 60W CW at 1.6mm pitch between each bar and pump arrays of up to 1200W are available with 808, 915, 940, and 975 nm.
Visible Fiber Lasers from IPG Photonics (Oxford, MA) offer single-mode output from 5 to 30 watts with wavelength options selectable between 770 and 780 nm. The Visible Model ELP-775 provides high power with a perfect beam quality of M2 <1.1 in the red spectrum. The units feature >10 percent wall plug efficiency and a diode life of >100,000 hours. The adjustable pulse frequency is from 10 to 20 MHz and the pulse duration is 2–3 ns. The air-cooled units are rack mounted and offer user-friendly standard interfaces to ease system integration.
Variable beam attenuator
The UM-VA UV excimer laser variable beam attenuator from JPSA Laser (Hollis, NH) is used for selective material removal, micromachining, surface effectuations, and other applications. Users can perform optics adjustments at low laser power settings for safer conditions and less chance of optical damage to the optical beam delivery system.
