Firearm marking on hold in Canada

Regulations requiring laser marking of imported firearms with a "CA" along with the last two digits of the year of import have been postponed until 2009.

Regulations requiring laser marking of imported firearms with a "CA" (for Canada) along with the last two digits of the year of import have been postponed until 2009. The regulations were to have become effective on December 1, 2007.

The proposed marking regulations were the result of international agreements signed by the previous government, according to an article in the Ottawa Sun. Reportedly, of 64 countries that have signed, only one has implemented the requirement.
