EOS hires Trumpf exec to lead additive manufacturing expansion
Tim Morris, former head of Trumpf's Laser Technology Division, will oversee EOS' North American operations as the comapny seeks to expand the use of its laser sintering systems for manufacturing applications.
Novi, MI --EOS Electro Optical Systems (EOS), a maker of additive manufacturing systems, has hired Tim Morris as VP of its North American operations. Morris was formerly the GM at Trumpf North America, overseeing sales and service activities at its Laser Technology Division, and spent more than a decade at the company in various positions.
EOS, founded in Germany in 1989, established its presence in the US a decade ago, and claims "a number" of domestic customers with 130 installations being used in applications ranging from patient-specific plastic drill guides for surgery, to polyamide components for unmanned aircraft, to metal tooling inserts and dental copings. EOS claims 1100 systems installed globally, about a third of which (450) are its direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) technology.
In his new role, Morris will manage sales/marketing, service/application engineering, and administration, and oversee EOS' North American businesses including Advanced Laser Materials (ALM) and Integra, which specialize in researching and developing engineered materials for additive manufacturing processes. He will be based in Novi, where EOS has a Technical Center with plastic and metal systems and an applications lab where engineers and manufacturers can explore the suitability of the technology for their products.
"We can help companies transition successfully from prototyping to production, and we can also support those who want to expand upon their traditional manufacturing processes," Morris said in a statement.
