I greatly enjoyed your editorial in the November issue of Industrial Laser Solutions (page 32), but either I did an inadequate job of stating my case or you have missed the point. This is not a discussion of the attributes of private versus public companies or big versus small organizations. Similarly, it is not about brainpower or creativity, as our industry abounds with them.
It is about enabling markets that create growth and prosperity so that the industry can attract (and retain) talent and investment. This will become more relevant as the industry continues to move into mainstream applications where the cost of ownership (CoO) models become increasingly aggressive. The investment required to achieve a substantial reduction in CoO is large and a diffuse effort (i.e., lots of companies trying to feed at the same trough) will not get it done.
With kind regards,
President and CEO
