San Jose, CA—A portable, 200W Nd:YAG Laser Decoating System delivered to Warner Robins Air Logistics Center (Robins AFB, GA) can be used, in a commercial version, for conventional paint stripping, graffiti removal and other small-area stripping applications.
Portable laser striping head.
This system was built by General Lasertronics Corporation, a system integrator with broad experience in surface cleaning applications, and one that prefers to purchase off-the-shelf lasers to provide the energy necessary for efficient coating removal.
The laser system, mounted in a trailer, has its beam delivered to a handheld work head through an umbilical that also serves as the evacuation route for waste products. This trailer also contains a waste management system, cooling water supply for the laser and air dryers for the compressed air used to keep the optics clean.
At Warner Robins the "Laze-Ablator" will be used for trim work and to access critical or sensitive areas where risk of damage from media-blast methods could not be tolerated. Laser stripping does not require masking or pre- or post-operation cycles, such as rinses.
