Billerica, MA—According to a wire story, GSI Lumonics Inc. has entered into an agreement to acquire the principal assets, and certain liabilities, of Spectron Laser Systems (Rugby, UK), a subsidiary of Lumenis Ltd. (Yokneam, Israel). Closing was expected to occur last month, with the integration of Spectron into GSI Lumonics' Laser Group in Rugby to be complete by August.

The acquisition adds diode-pumped solid-state laser technology and products to the GSI Lumonics product line, as well as expanded product lines in lamp-pumped and CO2 based technologies. Spectron's lasers are highly regarded around the world in marking, cutting, machining and micro-welding applications. They should nicely compliment GSI Lumonics' product lines by expanding applications in the 7W to 100W power range.

Details on the acquisition can be obtained from Victor Wooley at GSI Lumonics, tel. (978) 439-5511, ext. 6135.
