Biomerics creates advanced laser technology division for medical device manufacturing

Feb. 8, 2017
The Advanced Laser division will specialize in laser welding, cutting, ablating, and marking metal and plastic materials.

Medical device contract manufacturer Biomerics (Salt Lake City, UT) has created an Advanced Laser division that will specialize in laser welding, cutting, ablating, and marking metal and plastic materials within the precision medical device market.

The new division will use Nd:YAG lasers, fiber lasers, and ultrafast laser technologies, as well as offer a portfolio of secondary processes that include cleaning, passivation, heat setting, and electropolishing, allowing the company to provide beginning-to-end solutions to the precision medical device market. Product offerings will include precision tubes, stents, valve bodies, specialty surgical device components, implantables, and catheter systems.

Biomerics Advanced Laser—which will have expertise in areas such as laser fabrication of flat stock, metal tubes, plastic tubes, electrodes, bands, wire assemblies, and cannula assemblies—will be led by Mark Dustrude. The division will be located in Brooklyn Park, MN, within the company's 72,000-sq-ft. facility. The facility, which is ISO-13485-certified and FDA-registered, is currently home to Biomerics Advanced Catheter—a division of Biomerics dedicated to design, development, and production of advanced catheters and device leads.
