Portland, OR - Electro Scientific Industries (ESI) has debuted its µFlex Series multi-axis laser micromachining platform for rapid prototyping and building high-volume manufacturing processes that address advanced marking, cutting, drilling, and ablating. The platform is configurable to accommodate a wide variety of laser wavelengths, powers, and pulse widths, from nanosecond to femtosecond, to optimize processes for such materials as fabrics, metals, ceramics, glass (including strengthened glass), and sapphire. The company's real-time control system synchronizes the timing of laser pulses with laser beam positioning and movement of the work surface.

Recognizing that space is at a premium on the manufacturing floor, the platform's total footprint is as small as 1.7m2. The platform accepts a wide range of industry-standard automation technologies for loading and unloading parts in industries such as consumer electronics, medical devices, automotive components, and others.
