St. Paul, MN - Digital laser converting equipment maker LasX Industries and partner Brandtjen & Kluge, a manufacturer of specialty print finishing and converting equipment, demonstrated their CartonsInMinutes packaging solution at Pack Expo 2015, held September 28-30, 2015, in Las Vegas, NV. This continuous digital finishing line converts digitally printed materials to finished cartons in <1min when compared to traditional processes that take days or weeks to complete. In addition to high-speed throughput, the system reduces cost by eliminating tooling, setup, and work in process (WIP).
The demonstration unit was based on the LasX CIM-400, a 400W CO2 laser system equipped with proprietary double-vision registration technology for highly precise, repeatable laser positioning. Double-vision registration also communicates job specifications for high-speed cutting, blanking, and scoring, and accommodates on-the-fly material changes. An integrated robotic system removes scrap and feeds the trimmed printed material to the folding and gluing system specially designed by Kluge for quick changeovers.

LasX vice president David Pung explains that the company formed a strategic alliance with Kluge in 2012 to develop the digital print-finishing solution, and feedback the company received at Pack Expo 2015 for the system was positive.
CartonsInMinutes systems are scalable to meet the needs of any digital production environment. Systems can be configured with up to two 1000W lasers to perform additional converting operations while achieving throughput speeds as high as 15,000 cartons/hr, with instant order change capabilities in continuous production runs.
