Munich, Germany - LASER World of Photonics, held June 22-25, 2015, drew more than 30,000 attendees who viewed 1227 exhibitors—representing a 9% increase over the 2013 event.

"The popularity among exhibitors is reflected in the rising demand," says Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer, Messe München's deputy CEO. "Far more than half the exhibitors and visitors came from abroad. The enormous growth in visitors from outside Europe is also down to countries such as the USA, China, and Japan."

Photonics is revolutionizing automotive production: lasers cut car bodies and laser headlights, which was demonstrated by the new special show “Photonics Applications in the Automotive Industry." In addition, additive manufacturing was demonstrated by various exhibitors.

BMW i8 is the first vehicle equipped with laser light technology. Companies involved in the work included Jenoptik, Kuka, Newport Spectra-Physics, and LIMO.

The International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (declared by UNESCO) was a golden thread running not just through the trade fair but also through the World of Photonics Congress, with eight scientific conferences, more than 2700 lectures, and approximately 3500 participants—an important meeting place for the international scientific elite.

The results of a poll testify to the excellent atmosphere: 97% of visitors found the trade fair “excellent to good” and will likely return.
