It may seem premature, but here at ILS, we have started the process of preparing the 2018 editorial calendar. With the assistance of my high-powered Editorial Advisory Board, whose members are listed in every issue of the magazine (see our March/April 2017 issue: https://goo.gl/OI2Za1), a list of potential subjects and contributing authors is being compiled.
Currently, we have identified a number of potential subjects for starters, but there are dozens of editorial slots to fill. We will continue to add subjects as we cull through suggestions received.
This is a call for those interested in contributing a technical article to contact me. The readers of ILS, comprised of manufacturing professionals in more than 150 countries, eagerly look forward to each issue for information on advanced industrial laser material processing, as presented by international contributing authors. For example, in the latest issue, there are articles by authors from Japan, Australia, England, Israel, Lithuania, and of course the US. In the next issue, the lineup features articles from Switzerland, India, Japan, Germany, France, and the US. Subjects range from laser peening and cladding to precision hole drilling and laser stir welding, with strong contributions on advanced ultrafast laser microfabrication and high-power fiber laser sheet metal cutting.
My challenge now is to top a wicked-good (excuse the New England intensifier) 2017 calendar. We have a start with potential subjects including super-hydrophobic lasered structures, narrow groove welding, and laser additive manufacturing in the aircraft industry. And we are receiving more suggestions every day.
This is a call to all industrial laser processing technologists—here is the opportunity to join the ranks of distinguished ILS contributors who have sent their message to the world.
