Renishaw, Sandvik enter metal additive manufacturing agreement

Dec. 3, 2018
This is one of the largest installations to date of the RenAM 500Q additive manufacturing system.

Metal additive manufacturing company Renishaw (Wotton-under-Edge, England) has initiated a collaboration with Sandvik Additive Manufacturing (Sandviken, Sweden) in which Renishaw will supply Sandvik with RenAM multilaser systems, with the goal of substantially increasing Sandvik's printing capacity.

This is one of the largest installations to date of the RenAM 500Q system, which features 500 W quad lasers in the most commonly used platform size for increased productivity. Working with ongoing support from Renishaw, the investment will complement Sandvik's existing printing technologies. The two companies also intend to collaborate in areas such as materials development, additive manufacturing process technologies, and post-processing.

Sandvik has initiated extensive investments, amounting to 200 million SEK (over $22.1 million), in a new plant for manufacturing of titanium and nickel powders for additive manufacturing. The investment will complement the company's existing Osprey powder offering to include virtually all alloy groups of relevance.
