  • ESI receives multisystem order from China's Hangzhou Silan Azure Corp.
    ESI's New Wave Research (NWR) Division has received a multiple-system order from Hangzhou Silan Azure Corp. Ltd. for its AccuScribe 2112 laser-scribing equipment. China-based Silan Azure?a manufacturer of full-color LED chips?will use the AccuScribe systems to expand production capacity for its high-volume, HB-LED applications.
  • 3D Systems begins registration for its October World Conference
    3D Systems Corp. has posted a preliminary agenda and begun registration for its annual World Conference on topics that discuss all facets of additive manufacturing technology and its practical applications. The event is scheduled for October 20-23, 2008, in Charlotte, NC.
  • Aerotech announces new brochure on automation solutions for laser processing

  • Senate science funding support lauded by optics community
    A recent letter sent to the Senate Appropriations Committee by eight US senators for $350 million in additional science funding is being applauded by SPIE members and others in the optics industry. The letter asks for additional current-year funding of $250 million for the DOE Office of Science and $100 million for the National Science Foundation, said Richard M. Johnson of the American Institute of Physics.
  • SORB Engineers replace laser machines with Prima automated laser cutting cell
    SORB Engineers has decided to replace its two existing laser machines with a state-of-the-art automated laser cutting cell from Prima Industrie UK. The result is a customized installation delivering faster and more accurate profiling, as well as a 'lights out' capability, and 40% extra material capacity than standard.
  • Prism Electronics designs, manufactures PCBs for GSI Group's fiber laser
    Prism Electronics, St Ives, Cambridgeshire, UK, has used its engineering skills to assist GSI Group, a Rugby-based laser manufacturing company, to break into the growing fiber laser products market. Prism has helped design and manufacture a number of printed circuit boards (PCBs) that are central to GSI's new fiber laser, which is now being rolled out to selected GSI Group customers.

    The 3rd Pacific International Conference on Applications of Lasers and Optics (PICALO) will host its first International Enterprise Summit. The conference takes place April 16-18 in Beijing, China.

    Fiberguide Industries Inc. has entered into an exclusive distributor agreement with Tritech Ltd. of Hod Hasharon, Israel. Tritech is reportedly one of the major Israeli stocking representatives and distributors of electronic components, modules, subsystems, and systems to the entire Israeli electronics industries.
  • 8 Nominees for International Laser Innovation Award Announced
    Eight nominees were selected from 33 applications and proposals from nine countries for the Berthold Leibinger Innovationspreis, which recognizes worldwide innovations in applied laser technology. Topics include silicon photonics, medical lasers and applications, laser measuring devices, lasers for and in micro-machining, car body production, and microlithography.
  • LightMachinery Acquires Two Product Lines from GSI Group
    LightMachinery Inc. has concluded an agreement with GSI Group to purchase its Impact and LaserMark product lines.
