A Kickstarter campaign for the Trinus all-metal, professional-grade 3D printer/laser engraver hybrid will launch on March 30, 2016.
The Industrial Laser Solutions take on this story:

San Francisco, CA-based startup Kodama 3D has developed an all-metal, professional-grade 3D printer/ laser engraver hybrid system prototype called Trinus, and will be launching a Kickstarter campaign on March 30, 2016, to raise funding that will help the company bring the development to market.

Industrial designer Bojan Smiljanic led the development of Trinus, as he wanted to avoid the need to invest thousands of dollars in a 3D printer that would need maintenance and upgrades, as well as limitations in design capabilities. To do this, he scaled down the mechanics of an industrial 3D printer to one that fits on a desktop, whose features include a single-axis slider for stabilization and only 10 other components for assembly that takes approximately 30 min.

The system, which does not need constant recalibration, can print with standard polyactides, polycarbonates, wood, and aluminum. It will include its own proprietary Pango software, but will work with any other software or gcode. What's more, it takes about 1 min. to convert from a printer to a laser engraver.

The first 100 backers of the Trinus Kickstarter campaign will receive a special early bird price of $199 to own the system. The regular price will be $299.
