Laser marking equipment maker Datalogic opens new plant in Hungary

Datalogic, which manufactures laser marking and industrial automation equipment, has opened a new plant in Balatonboglar, Hungary, that covers 7000 m2, and is predominantly dedicated to producing factory automation equipment.

Datalogic has been in Hungary since 2003, following the joint venture with company Fonyton (Fonyód, Hungary), and later independently as Datalogic Hungary, operating at the Fonyód plant and carrying out assembly and final inspection of a number of products. With the decision to expand its presence in Hungary, a new and modern factory was built in Balatonboglar and may soon become one of the key manufacturing hubs in Europe.

The objective of this investment, amounting to over €9 million (~$10.2 million) during the 2014-2016 period, is to expand production capacity in accordance with the group's growth plans, and to ensure greater flexibility and the utmost quality in the production process, thanks to the introduction of three new SMT lines. The technology used in the new plant, from installing electronic circuit boards (3D-AOI, flying probe testing) to assembling finished products (functional tests) in Industry 4.0, in conjunction with organizing the entire process in a single plant, will allow the company to achieve continuous flow in production; introduce new know-how, technical capabilities, and supplementary technologies; and independently create, starting from the base components, essential products for the automation of any factory in the world.

Datalogic currently employs approximately 180 employees in Hungary, and it aims to arrive at about 200, strengthening the current staff and line functions (such as quality control and planning, raw materials logistics, components, and finished products) and permitting management of additional production activities.

With a 1400 m2 warehouse, the new production hub in Balatonboglar will also become a logistics center of excellence for sensors, safety barriers, and bar code readers for industrial use, ensuring deliveries in 24 hours in over 70 countries.
