Trumpf adds disk laser production in Japan

07/09/2012

Ditzingen, Germany -- Trumpf, a world leader in the production of lasers for industrial materials processing, has opened a production location for disk lasers at Trumpf Japan in Yokohama.

Dr. Peter Leibinger, vice chairman of the managing board, officially inaugurated the new TruDisk production facility on June 1, 2012. Amongst the 120 invited guests were customers, key figures from Japanese industry, professors from Japanese universities, and media representatives. A high-ranking delegate from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) expressed his congratulations, thanking Trumpf for investing in Japan after the nuclear catastrophe in Fukushima.

The Yokohama location is the company's third production site for disk lasers after Schramberg (Germany) and Farmington (USA). The initial plan is to assemble around 40 lasers a year, with the objective of expanding the Japanese market for disk laser technology for application in laser welding, laser cutting, and laser surface treatment. Japanese customers will now be able to observe the quality of production processes and products first-hand at the Yokohama site. The production staff was specially trained at the company's development and production location for disk lasers in Schramberg. In the long term, having local production facilities will enable Trumpf to better respond to the requirements of Japanese customers.
