  A new technology using a hotwire system can extend gap tolerance of laser welding, by Y. Kitahara, M. Fukahori, K. Shinozaki, and M. Yamamoto.
• 07/01/2011 -- EU project CLAiM begins with Turkey workshop
  Hannover, Germany – The goal of a new European consortium with six partners from research and industry is to perfect a laser-stabilized plasma welding process. About 50 interested enterprises came to the one-day, start-up workshop for the CLAiM project in Turkey, and attentively followed the lectures on the planned optimizations for welding thin metal sheets.
• 04/19/2011 -- High quality and process stability for welding copper
  Hannover, Germany – A newly developed "laser pre-pulse module" can be used to initiate the copper welding  process and provide a 100% welding guarantee. The laser is small, inexpensive, and the result of process developments at the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH). The pre-pulse is decisive for automating micro-processing or for connecting surface mounted devices to printed circuit boards.

  Cleveland, Ohio – Lincoln Electric Automation will host a one-day laser welding and cutting technology seminar at its Automation Center of Excellence on March 24, 2011.The seminar will include a brief review of the history of lasers, an introduction to laser materials processing benefits, and hands-on demonstrations of the technology.
