Rockwell Industries offers courses for laser professionals

Rockwell Laser Industries is offering the following courses for laser professionals over the next two months: Principles of Lasers and Laser Safety from May 6-7, 2008 in Cincinnati, OH; Laser Safety Officer from June 3-6, 2008 in Minneapolis, MN; and Measurements for Laser Safety from June 24-26, 2008 in Cincinnati, OH.

Course L-125: Principles of Lasers and Laser Safety
This two-day introductory level course is designed to give the participant with limited laser and optics background a solid introduction to lasers and safety concepts based upon ANSI Z136.1, FDA/CDRH, OSHA, and state requirements. The course begins with a general overview of basic laser and optics concepts. The fundamentals of laser operation, laser terminology, and laser beam properties will be discussed, along with basic laser optics. Common types of lasers, including solid-state, gas, and diode lasers are described in this part of the course as well.

Course L-222: Laser Safety Officer
This intermediate level course provides an in-depth, analytical review of the Laser Safety Officer duties and requirements of ANSI Z136.1, OSHA, FDA-CDRH and state laser standards. The course begins with a review of basic laser operation with emphasis on those laser characteristics that are important in understanding the laser hazard evaluation. After a review of the biological basis, the student will complete an in-depth computation workshop that covers MPE, AEL, NHZ and OD factors. An in-depth discussion of the controls of laser hazards is included.

Course L-240: Measurements for Laser Safety
This is a two-and-one-half-day intermediate level intensive hands-on course in laser output measurements tailored to meet the specific needs of laser safety. The course will focus on workshop exercises that are designed to make maximum use of laser output measurement equipment in solving real-world laser measurement problems. The ANSI Z136.1 Standard For the Safe Use of Lasers and FDA/CDRH Laser Product Performance Standards and IEC 60825-1 and -2 and EN 60825-1 will be the basis of measurement requirements presented in the course.
