Adding value to cutting and welding

September 20--(As reported in the Cape Business News, 19 Sep 2005) Fabrinox, one of the well-known suppliers of laser cutting and welding in the Western Cape (South Africa), over the past decade has built a reputation for value for money manufacturing based on its ability to produce world-class laser cut components, quality welding, and other services focused on customer requirements. Fabrinox says it differentiates itself from competition by providing a complete turnkey solution to sheet metal fabrication.

Fabrinox operates two laser cutters: 3kW and 5kW Trumpf machines with 2m x 4m auto loading facilities. The 3kW machine is equipped with a tube cutting attachment, giving a range of tube cutting solutions with applications ranging from standard pipe installations, intricate processing applications, and decorative work. Tubular sections from diameters 25mm to approximately 400mm can be processed in a highly accurate and cost-effective fashion to accurately meet customer requirements.

Special sections can also be processed under certain conditions, such as angles and channels. General laser cutting can be done on all popular and even exotic materials with the general criteria of up to 20mm stainless steel, 12mm aluminum, and up to 25mm mild steel.

The laser department of Fabrinox functions on a three-shift system, with the backing of material stock in popular sizes being available through consignment stock or imported material. Material handling, control over customers' material and scrap, remains a focus for the laser department, seen in the light that this will be part of the key to maintain the stable costing structure of the company as well as improved efficiency. Fabrinox aims to make customers more competitive and this is one of the ways to reach this important goal.

Fabrinox competes in the market with other laser cutting suppliers, but offers a wide range of other services to complement the profiling work. One such in-house service is welding. Fabrinox offers quality welding by using electrode welding, argon TIG welding as well as MIG technology on stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum.

A well-trained and motivated welding department will give customers welding work to specification, in an ISO accredited environment to add to control and traceability. Fabrinox has trained and certified personnel to weld work ranging from components to pressure vessels and other highly specified and intricate products.

Fabrinox says it is constantly striving to improve the quality of service in terms of in-house capacity and value-added services, as well as quality of product. Its cutting and welding activities cannot be separated from the rest of the manufacturing process, enabling Fabrinox to offer customers a complete sheet metal manufacturing solution.
